Sorry not sorry that this is the longest list ever. I love going full speed ahead with summer reads, and I found some gems this year! I know this is a long post, but my opinions on some of the most popular books of the summer are closer to the bottom, so don’t give up on the post!
This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune
I had to pick this book up when I learned it was set on Prince Edward Island and had some Anne of Green Gables Easter eggs sprinkled in. I loved the setting, and I also really enjoyed seeing the main character figure out how to chase her dreams in a way that was sustainable and fulfilling for her. I really want to run away to PEI now—I saw there was a music festival there recently, so I think I might just need to go and never return?
Middle of the Night by Riley Sager
I really love Sager’s horror/thrillers. They feel like they’re paranormal and spooky, but wrap up with reasonable explanations in the end (at least the ones I’ve read!). In Middle of the Night, a boy and his friend are camping in the woods, but in the morning one of them has disappeared and there’s a slash in the tent. Many years later, the main character returns to his childhood home and is haunted by the past in more ways than one. This one also has some Stranger Things vibes, which I loved.
Sandwich by Catherine Newman
Nothing happens in this book—which I love when it’s done well. A family stays at the same beach house year after year. The main character is navigating menopause,
